The Youth Are Starting To Change
I have to post MGMT’s latest music video release to “The Youth” directed by Eric Wareheim simply because as creepy and nostalgic as it is, I think it’s quite clever and well done. I would love to know who these four kids are and where they learned to dance. It reminds me of a quote from last night’s CCA lecture presented by Brazilian contemporary artist Vik Muniz (post to come) that read something like: “Childhood is nothing but an acid trip that we’re all trying to get back to”. I couldn’t agree more and I think this video captures that exact sentiment with a whole lot of sequence and style:

“This is a call of arms to live and love and sleep together
We could flood the streets with love or light or heat whatever
Lock the parents out, cut a rug, twist and shout
Wave your hands
Make it rain
For stars will rise again
The youth is starting to change
Are you starting to change?
Are you?
Together
In a couple of years
Tides have turned from booze to tears
And in spite of the weather
We could learn to make it together
The youth is starting to change
Are you starting to change?
Are you?
Together”
